Fodbold kan samle mennesker på tværs af modsætninger og forskelligheder. I Beirut forbereder to krigsveteraner sig på at se deres favorithold Brasilien under VM 2014. De to fodboldfans, en kristen og en muslim, har kæmpet mod hinanden under borgerkrigen, men har den samme passion for det smukke spil og for Brasilien. Nu bringer fodbolden dem sammen på en café, der ligger på den gamle frontlinje gennem Beirut.
Det er en bevægende film, som viser, hvordan fodbolden kan forene gamle fjender, og at vi som mennesker måske har mere tilfælles, end det der skiller os ad.

Lebanon Wins the World Cup is a documentary short film about war and football. Shot against the backdrop of the 1982 and 2014 FIFA World Cups; it tells the story of two former enemies, a bookish Communist guerrilla and a battle-hardened Christian, who share a love for the Brazilian team despite fighting each other in one of the 20th Century’s most notorious conflict, the Lebanese Civil War. The film investigates the brutality of war, the beauty of Brazilian football, and the fleeting possibility of reconciliation for Lebanon’s ‘Lost Generation’.
